Donald Loren Wolter of Plymouth, Minn., passed away from a sudden and unexpected illness in Ketchum, Idaho, on May 30, 2013. He was born on July 8, 1939, in Morristown, Minn. A lifelong educator, he tutored his grandchildren into his final days. Don loved traveling the world, including trips to more than 70 countries, making friends in all lands. He was a passionate bicycler, hiker, bowler, canoeist, fisherman and Nordic skier. As a coach, he inspired the love of Nordic skiing in thousands of people. He was a Fulbright scholar, a lover of the German language (and beer), and a gentle, kind soul who loved to laugh.
He will be missed by many, including his wife, Susanne; son, Michael (Molly) Goodyear; grandchildren, Peter and Ella; daughter, Sonja (Steve Conley); sister, Betty Minnick (Dan); nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and countless friends in the U.S., Germany and the rest of the world. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Ave., Plymouth Minn. Memorials preferred to the Three Rivers Park District Foundation (attn: Don Wolter Memorial), 3000 Xenium Lane N., Plymouth MN 55441, phone 763-559-9000.
