Sixteen members of the Sun Valley 5B swim team were in the field of 518 swimmers on 28 Northwest teams at the Boise YMCA’s annual Spring Fling competition May 17-19.  It was the first meet of the long-course summer season.

In the Women’s 13-14 year-old age class, Johnson won the 100- and 200-meter butterfly, and captured first place in the balance of all her events—400m, 800m and 1500m free, 50m fly, and 200m Individual Medley. In the 100m fly, Johnson’s overall win (13-and-over) was against women’s teams from Boise State and University of Nevada/Reno.
Senior veteran team members Gus Kimball and Tayler Bates posted strong swims.

In Women’s 13-14, Katherine Lemma scored five events in the top five. She won 50m breast with teammate Danielle Doerflein placing ninth in 50m back.
In Men’s 13-14, Mason Johnson had four finishes in the top eight, with best times fifth in the 50m back and sixth in the 200m back. Teammate Nyle Prabowo took fifth in the 50m breast, followed by an eighth place in 100m breast.
In Women’s 11-12, Faye Prekeges broke into the top eight with sixth in the 50m fly, while teammate Petra Glenn just missed a top-eight finish in the 200m free, finishing ninth.
In Men’s 11-12, Zach Deal had a breakout long-course meet finishing in the top eight in all eight of his races. He scored third in the 50m and 200m free and 50m breast.
In Women’s 9-10, Maggie Deal raced to her best-ever finish in 100m breast, in 20th.
Gallagher plans to take the entire 5B squad on the road June 28-30 to Nevada for Elko’s High Altitude Invitational.
