PEOPLE & PLACES


    Wood River Middle School eighth-grade student Brock Mary was recently recognized by Princeton University’s gifted program. He plans to attend Princeton’s Summer Institute for the Gifted in New Jersey. Brock plays baseball, football and basketball and recently attended a Know Your Government conference in Boise through Idaho 4-H.
    Maggie Allen of Sun Valley has graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pace University in New York City. Maggie received dual degrees in theatre arts and art. Daughter of Tom and Jane Allen, Maggie is a 2009 graduate of Boise High School.
    Dan Todd, president of Smoky Mountain Pizzeria Grill, has won the Small Business Administration’s Idaho Small Business Person of the Year award for 2013, according to a May 15 Idaho Business Review article. Todd received the award at a lunch ceremony May 15 in the Boise Centre.  Smoky Mountain was started by Todd’s family in Ketchum 21 years ago and has expanded throughout the state. It now has 260 employees.
    Keller Gibson of Ketchum graduated May 12 from Beloit College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Beloit College (Wis.) is a residential, liberal arts college with 1,250 students 90 miles northwest of Chicago.
    Morgan Pintler of Ketchum has been named to the dean’s list (3.6 GPA or better) for the winter/spring term at Centre College in Danville, Ky. She is a daughter of Todd and Carol Pintler of Ketchum and is a graduate of the Community School.
    Jennifer Tormey of Ketchum graduated April 27 from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She majored in environmental studies.
    Rosalind Brokaw, a daughter of Bayard and Kerry Brokaw of Ketchum, has graduated with a degree in environmental science from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo.
    Whitney H. Trook of Ketchum was one of 502 seniors who graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, on May 26. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Trook, a daughter of David and Marcia Trook of Ketchum, majored in global studies and economics.
    Among the 773 Lafayette College (Easton, Pa.) students recognized for spring semester academic honors on the dean’s list (3.6 GPA or better) were Allison Siegel of Hailey, a Wood River High School graduate, and Geraldo Pereira Neto of Sun Valley, a graduate of the Community School.
