Free photography lecture in Hailey
Photographer Seth Resnick will give a lecture on contemporary photography, including his contributions to digital workflow through the online tool he co-founded, D-65, today, June 26, at 5:30 p.m. at The Center for the Arts in Hailey.
D-65 is an organization dedicated to helping photographers use technology to improve not only their photographs, but the way they organize, share and archive images.

Opportunities to help Girls on the Run abound
Guest bartenders Hilary Sinnamon and Daryl Fauth will serve up a “Solemate” concoction at Cornerstone Bar & Grill tonight, June 26, from 5-7 p.m. to support Girls on the Run. Funds raised will help 12 athletes to travel this August to race in the Grand Teton Relay on behalf of the organization.

What’s happening at the Community Library?
Author Barbara Moritsch will discuss her book “The Soul of Yosemite,” which chronicles her work in five Western parks as a naturalist and ecologist for the National Park Service, tonight, June 26, at 6 p.m., at The Community Library in Ketchum.
On Thursday, June 27, at 6 p.m., the library will offer a screening of “Two Who Dared: The Sharp’s War,” a story of courage, documenting the lives of Reverend Waitstill Sharp and his wife Martha, who left their family in Boston to help rescue persecuted Jews leading into World War II. Director Artemis Joukowsky will host a Facetime Q&A following the film.
Sun Peak Weed Out set for Saturday
The Wood River Land Trust and the city of Ketchum are inviting the public to meet at the parking lot just south of Hulen Meadows, on the east side, Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m.-noon to help protect the Big Wood River floodplain at River Park at Sun Peak and the nearby sediment trap at Hulen Meadows pond.

Learn about “The Basque Migration to the American West”
The College of Southern Idaho Blaine County Center and the Idaho Humanities Council present a free community lecture by Basque educator John Bieter on “The Basque Migration to the American West” on Thursday, June 27, at 6 p.m., in Room 512 at the Community Campus in Hailey.
The free lecture is the first component of a Basque Studies Summer Series at the CSI Blaine County Center. A second lecture, called “Basque Origins and Euskara,” will be held on Thursday, July 11. The series will culminate with an excursion day on July 18. The excursion will include visits to Basque sites in the Hailey area and samples of Basque cuisine. The July 18 excursion requires advanced registration and a $60 tuition fee.

Wine tasting, silent auction for Crisis Hotline
The Crisis Hotline, which is celebrating 26 years of service to the Wood River Valley, is hosting its sixth annual Spring Winetasting/Silent Auction event on Saturday, June 29, at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden south of Ketchum, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The public is invited to enjoy an evening with the theme “Wines of the Americas,” featuring fine wines from North and South America specially selected by TasteVin Wines, to go with appetizers from valley chefs.
The event will include beer to sample from Sawtooth Brewery and the sounds of pianist Michael White.
A free raffle ticket will be given to each attendee at the door for two Sue Bridgman living floral arrangements worth $150 each. Raffle tickets can also be purchased for $5 each or 6 for $20. Cost is $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling the office at 788-0735.
Wanna be in a low-budget horror flick?
Auditions for a low-budget horror movie to be made in the Wood River Valley will be held at nexStage Theatre in Ketchum on Sunday, June 30, from 2-4 p.m.

Fools party to celebrate coming season
On Monday, July 1, the community is invited to a free party at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey at which the Sun Valley Center for the Arts will announce its upcoming fall/winter season, as well as the Company of Fools’ 18th season. The party is from 5-6 p.m.
And then on Tuesday, July 2, “Other Desert Cities,” a contemporary family drama hailed by the New York Times as “the best new play on Broadway” in 2011, opens at the theater at 7 p.m. It will star valley actors Keith Moore, Denise Simone and Patsy Wygle and guest actors Hanna Cheek and Adrian Rieder. The show will run Tuesdays through Saturdays until July 27. The debut is a “pay what you feel” preview. Tickets are $35, $25 for seniors and Center members and $10 for students (18 and under). Few spots available for Wynonna’s concert
Five-time Grammy Award winner Wynonna is almost sold out, but the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, benefactors of this charitable concert on Aug. 8, has announced that a limited number of tickets will be available starting Friday, July 13, at 10 a.m. for $50 per person.
These tickets may be purchased only through the symphony website at svsummersymphony.org or by calling the ticket line at (800) 595-4849. The additional reserved seats will be placed in several rows directly behind the last row of Pavilion seating and will extend onto the paver walkway. These seats—which are outside but offer views to the stage—can be purchased on a best-available basis (no seat selection) and include a row and seat number.
Purchasers who take advantage of these additional tickets will also have the opportunity to attend the pre-concert cocktail party on the Sun Valley Lodge Terrace at 5 p.m. by calling the Sun Valley Summer Symphony office and purchasing a $250 ticket.
Sun Valley Opera introduces new CEO
The Sun Valley Opera has announced the election of Edwin Outwater III as its new chairman and CEO. Outwater has replaced Clif Rippon, who guided the organization from its formative stages to its growth as a viable and respected community arts organization. During his tenure, Sun Valley Opera grew from an all-volunteer organization to hiring an executive director, presenting concerts in the Sun Valley Pavilion, sponsoring the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD, and expanding the board of directors.
“For a small arts organization, we have been extremely fortunate to have had two outstanding gentlemen as chairman and CEO who have a love for music and illustrious careers in the business sector,” said Sun Valley Opera Executive Director Mary Jo Helmeke. “We can’t help but see great things happening in the future for our organization.”
Getting ready to be nice, reggae style
Mountain Niceness Productions will present the Reggae in the Mountains-World Jam music event Saturday, July 20, from 4-10 p.m. at the Hailey Rodeo Grounds in Hailey.
The show will kick off at 4 p.m. with music by Chicago Afro Beat Project, Etana and Khari Kill. Chicago Afro Beat Project is one of the first American bands to bring Afrobeat to the masses, weaving the Chicago music scene with a unique Western-influenced Nigerian style. Etana, Jamaica’s 2013 Reggae Female Artist of the Year, presents an audacious fusion of folk, soul, jazz and reggae while promoting cultural consciousness. Khari Kill offers versatile reggae based in his Trinidad roots. Kill speaks out against oppression, poverty and injustice.
Tickets are $25 until June 30, $30 July 1-19, and $35 at the gate the day of the show. VIP, “Very Irie People,” tickets are $100 with access to the Reggae in the Mountains-World Jam VIP sponsor’s tent with décor, no-host bar, food, servers, swag and shade.
