14-U softball girls 3-3 at Chubbuck meet

Promise for Wood River future

The Wood River 14-U softball team coached  by Dale Martin, Chris Benson and Jeff Martin went 3-3 and placed third this past weekend in the Chubbuck U-14 fast-pitch tournament.
Pitcher Blair Radford led the way with three wins to go with two losses, and 26 strikeouts. Pitching well against a solid Utah team before absorbing a loss was Sydney Roberts.
Among Wood River players with outstanding offensive efforts were Janelle Avila (.571, triple, double), Adelle Martin .529 (2 triples, 2 doubles), Radford .563 (2 doubles), and Molly Whittington (.500, double).
Defensive stars were Morgan Benson, Delaney Brassil and Tess Hollister. Other contributors were Kelsey Beck, Arya Gibson, Cameron Martin and MacKenzie Shardlow.
Coach Dale Martin said, “I feel the team played very well considering it was our first tournament playing against teams playing in their fifth and sixth tournaments and have played 50 or more games.
“We have some very good young talent on this team which speaks well for the future of Wood River softball.”
