Cowboys edge WR Wranglers in league twinbill

    The Wood River Wranglers American Legion baseball team went toe-to-toe with the host Twin Falls Cowboys and came up a little shy Monday, but the final scores reflected progress for the Hailey 15-18 year olds.
   Twin Falls swept the Area C “A” West Division doubleheader by scores of 4-3 and 3-0. Wranglers coach Trent Seamons got a pair of strong pitching efforts from Alec Nordsieck in the first game and Nick Brunker in the second.
   Wood River (5-6, 3-3 league) lost its third straight, but the Wranglers have already matched their victory total from last year with 22 games left in the 2013 regular season.
   Nordsieck yielded only two hits in the opening game. At the plate, Dylan Broman (2-run single), Cameron Benson (2 hits, RBI) and Finn Isaacson (2 hits, triple) were the leaders.
   Wood River managed only four hits in the nightcap, by Brunker, Brandon Benson, Cameron Benson and Adrian Rojas, but complete-game pitcher Brunker (1 earned run, 2 BB) kept the Wranglers close.
   The Wranglers entertained the Blackfoot Broncos Tuesday at Hailey’s Founders Field.
   Wood River has eight more home games trying to qualify for the 12-team district tourney July 25 in Pocatello.
   Wood River hosts Madison White from Rexburg Monday, July 8 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and then greets Madison White Tuesday, July 16 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The reigning State “A” champion Burley Green Sox arrive for two games Monday, July 15. And Shelley arrives on Saturday, July 20.
   Next week, Wood River has a three-day, six-game road trip to eastern Idaho starting Monday, July 1 against Sugar-Salem at Sugar City.
