PEOPLE & PLACES


    l Samuel Brown, a Wood River High School junior this fall, has been accepted into the Rutgers University (N.J.) Summer Acting Conservatory.
    RUSAC is a highly competitive four-week program designed to allow high school students the opportunity to experience intensive, professional actor training taught by accomplished professionals within the context of a college environment. No more than 38 high school students from across the country are accepted: 24 in the acting program and 12 to 14 in the musical theater track.
    Brown auditioned for the musical theater track and will study acting, singing and dancing. He has performed and participated in many theater productions in the valley with St. Thomas Playhouse and nexStage Theatre. He is studying voice with R.L. Rowsey of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony School of Music and is a member of the WRHS B-tones choir group.

    l Samantha Engel of Hailey participated in Gonzaga University’s graduation exercises during the May 12 commencement ceremony in Spokane’s Veterans’ Memorial Arena. Wood River High School graduate Engel graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.

    l Courtney Hamilton of Hailey graduated May 19 from Pomona College in California with a bachelor of arts degree in public policy analysis and a minor in politics. A daughter of Tim and Sue Hamilton, she is a graduate of the Community School in Sun Valley.

    l Caroline Sargent of Ketchum, a member of the class of 2015 at Connecticut College in New London, has been named to the Dean’s High Honors list (GPA 3.78 or higher) for the 2013 spring semester.

    l The University of Idaho in Moscow has announced the names of 2,062 students making the dean’s list (GPA 3.50 or higher) for spring semester 2013. The honorees included several from the local area, listed here with their colleges:
    From Bellevue: College of Art & Architecture, Staci Elizabeth Page.
    From Fairfield: College of Engineering, Andrew David Simon; and from College of Letters Arts & Social Sciences, Dougless Irene Skinner.
    From Hailey: College of Business & Economics, Taylor Jean Hayes; from College of Letters Arts & Social Sciences, John William Leavell, Kylie Dawn Anderson and Megan Elizabeth Hayes.
    From Ketchum: College of Business & Economics, Alexander Richard Bates; from College of Education, Sadieanne Susan Grossbaum; from College of Science, Brandon Wade.
    From Sun Valley: College of Art & Architecture, Hunter Smith Van Bramer.
