School District seeks new trustee

Applications being accepted for Zone 5 seat

By TERRY SMITH
Express Staff Writer

The Blaine County School District is accepting applications for its Zone 5 trustee seat, vacated earlier this month with the resignation of former Trustee Don Nurge.
Applicants must live within Zone 5, which encompasses Sun Valley and eastern Ketchum. A complete description of the zone’s boundaries is on the district website at www.blaineschools.org. Questions can also be directed to board Clerk Laurie Kaufman at 578-5003 or lkaufman@blaineschools.org.
Interested residents of Zone 5 are required to submit a letter stating their interest in serving on the school board. Letters should be addressed, emailed or hand delivered to Kaufman at her email address or at Blaine County School District, 118 W. Bullion St., Hailey, ID 83333.
The deadline for receipt of letters of interest is Thursday, July 11, at 3 p.m.
The existing school board is responsible for selecting a new trustee and has scheduled a special meeting for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, at the district office for the purpose of interviewing candidates.
The newly appointed board member will serve through June 2015 and is eligible to run for election for a four-year term in May 2015.
Board member responsibilities include attendance at regular meetings, special meetings and workshops, establishing educational policies for the School District, selecting a superintendent to manage the district, approving an annual budget and approving expenditures.
