Bellevue pilot killed in South Carolina

Federal investigators still looking for cause of crash

    A 69-year-old Bellevue flying instructor was killed last week in an airplane crash near McClellanville, S.C.
    The Post and Courier newspaper in Charleston, S.C., reported on June 21 that Robert J. Ulrich died along with telecommunications executive Patrick Eudy, 44, when the twin-engine craft crashed into trees in a remote, swampy patch of woods on Thursday, June 20.
    The newspaper further reported that the National Transportation Safety Board was investigating but had not determined the cause of the crash.
    Ulrich, originally from Buffalo, N.Y., was an avid flyer, skier, railroad enthusiast, hiker and reader. He leaves behind his wife Jane Ulrich, also of Bellevue.
    A gathering in memory of Ulrich is set for today, June 26, from 6-7 p.m. at Mahoney’s Bar & Grill in Bellevue.
The Post and Courier reported that Ulrich was apparently accompanying Eudy on a routine flight so that Eudy could become re-certified on the aircraft that crashed, a 1977 Rockwell International 690B. Eudy was president and CEO of American Broadband, based in Matthews, N.C.
