Slalom on Roundhouse brings out 38

SVSC Baldy Cup debut

With a much larger than expected turnout, 38 slalom racers enjoyed sun and race-worthy snow on Roundhouse Slope Thursday, Dec. 19 during the Sun Valley Ski Club’s 2013-14 Baldy Cup opener.

The usual contingent of local Masters was joined by nearly 20 Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation juniors for the timed training runs and good-natured competition.

Miles Fink-Debray, who clocked the day’s fastest single run, finished with top men’s honors. Posting the second-fastest single run was Robin Sarchett. After two runs, only .01 second separated the two.

Fastest juniors were Cole Caulkins and Wyatt Minor.

On the ladies’ front F1 winner Lily Fitzgerald took overall spoils ahead of F2 winner Jena Greaser.

Jasmine Campbell, who may be competing in Sochi, Russia for the U.S. Virgin Islands alpine team in February, had the fastest single run.  Other top junior gals include Riley Revallier and Madison Ferris.

After the racing, Rob Clayton, executive director of the SVSEF, hosted Ski Club members in a tour of their new training facilities at the base of Warm Springs. Apple’s Bar & Grill and Steve Slivinski, longtime club member andracer, hosted the awards.

The next Ski Club Baldy Cup events are the Jan. 5 slalom and Jan. 7 Bradford Cup giant slalom during the Ski Club Reunion Week. Race registration is 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Warm Springs Lodge with racing at 10. Visit sunvalleyski.com for more details about the Baldy Cup.
