A 19-year-old Hailey man remained incarcerated in the Blaine County jail on Monday after being arrested on Dec. 16 for allegedly illegally entering an apartment in the Woodside area of Hailey and stealing a PlayStation 3 console from an acquaintance.
Mathieu Lance Sorrell was formally charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor petit theft at an initial court appearance Dec. 17 in Blaine County Magistrate Court. Bond was set at $10,000 and Hailey attorney Douglas Werth was assigned as public defender.
A probable-cause affidavit filed in the case by Hailey Patrolman Manuel Ornelas states that Sorrell had previously been staying at the apartment but was told by the female occupant that he was no longer allowed to be there. Ornelas wrote that Sorrell illegally entered the home on Dec. 16 and took the console, games and a controller. According to the report, Sorrell said he took the items because the woman owed him money.
Sorrell was arrested that same evening when Ornelas saw him in the area. The items he allegedly stole were recovered in the same area.
