Minico, WRHS wrestle on Hailey mat

Great Basin dual meet

Rupert’s Minico High School, perennially one of the top Great Basin Conference wrestling programs, came to Hailey’s Wood River High School gym Tuesday night for an early-season dual meet.
Wood River Wolverine head coach Shawn Huntington said, “Minico won the dual 54-28 meet but our kids wrestled well. Most importantly, every wrestler was able to get a match.”
He added, “We won three straight matches from 120 to 132. Ryan Anderson (5-2) at 120 pounds won by technical fall. Kaleb Guisasola at 126 pounds won by pin.”
In the marquee match-up of the night, Hailey senior Cooper Bailey (8-0) pinned Minico sen-ior Wyatt Bingham at 132 pounds. Bingham was last year’s GBC tournament 120-pound champion and fourth-place finisher in the State 4A meet.
Cameron Bingham (in his first year wrestling) recorded a win for Wood River at 145. Hans Heaphy won his exhibi-tion at 145 by pin.
Cooper Bailey, Ryan Ander-son and Jackson Toothman have traveled to Reno for this weekend’s Tournament of Champions in Nevada.
The rest of the Wolverines leave today for the Bear Cat tournament in Twin Falls. That includes Colby Castle, Everett Thomas, Irving Gonzalez, Hans Heaphy, Cameron Bingham, Aramys Gallegos, Jorge Vallejo and Ben Romero.
