Three people were treated and released at St. Luke’s Wood River hospital following a three-vehicle accident late Friday afternoon at the intersection of state Highway 75 and Hospital Drive.
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office identified the injury victims as Desiree Smith, 33, of Hailey, Donald B. Fraser, 80, of Hailey, and Daniel C. Ward, 43, of Richfield. All three were transported to the hospital by Ketchum Fire Department ambulance.
Sheriff Gene Ramsey said the accident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. when Smith, driving a white 2005 Toyota SUV, was northbound and attempting to turn left off of Highway 75 onto Hospital Drive. When Smith made the turn, her vehicle was struck by a southbound black 2013 Fiat driven by Fraser, Ramsey said.
Smith’s vehicle was then knocked into a 2012 gray Ford Escape that was waiting at the light on Hospital Drive, the sheriff said. The Ford Escape was driven by Megan E. Thomas, 33, of Sun Valley.
Ramsey said Smith’s 12-year-old son was in the vehicle with her but was not injured. Ward was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Fraser.
Ramsey said everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seatbelt. He said Smith will be cited for failure to yield.
“It snarled traffic for quite a while,” the sheriff said. “So there were significant traffic delays.”
