Vandals strike again in Ketchum

New wave of vandalism occurs in June

By TERRY SMITH
Express Staff Writer

Ketchum police are investigating a new wave of vandalism occurring in the city this month. Blue or green spray paint seems to be the weapon of choice of the culprit or culprits, with eight incidents reported since June 4.
The latest occurred sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning at the men’s restroom at Rotary Park. Earlier, several buildings were sprayed with graffiti, with the damage found Monday morning. Sites that were vandalized include the Ketchum Post Office, the old post office building on Sun Valley Road and a building at 311 First Ave. North. Street signs on First Avenue were also spray-painted.
Concerning vandalism to the Ketchum Post Office, Postmaster John McDonald said damaging federal property is a federal offense.
Earlier in the month on the evening of June 4 or June 5, the Mercantile Building at the corner of Sun Valley Road and Main Street was spray-painted, as was the Century Link building at 211 East Avenue North.
At the same time, lamp posts on Sun Valley Road and Main Street were painted near the Mercantile Building and Bank of America.
There was another wave of vandalism in the city in April.
Ketchum Police Chief Steve Harkins said the vandalism is occurring at night. He requested that anyone who sees suspicious activity contact Ketchum police at 726-7819 or Blaine County Dispatch, emergency 911, or non-emergency 788-5555.
