In wild one, Legion outlasts IF Bees 20-18

10-inning thriller in eastern Idaho

Using four pitchers, the Wood River American Legion Wranglers baseball team outlasted the host Idaho Falls Bonneville Bees 20-18 in 10 innings Tuesday to complete a two-day, four-game road trip with an extra-inning triumph.
Finn Isaacson scored the eventual winning run in the top of the 10th inning on an RBI hit by Adrian Rojas (2 hits, double, 4 RBI), and closer Cameron Benson shut down the Bees in the home half for the Area C “A” Legion victory.
Two other Wranglers contributing to the attack, both promising young players, were Will Long (3 hits) and Dylan Broman (2 hits including a 3-run triple clearing the bases).
Bryce John was Wood River’s starting pitcher for two innings. Dylan Broman came in and threw two-and-two-thirds before being relieved by Isaacson, who whiffed five in a three-and-a-third inning stint. Cam Benson closed in the ninth and the 10th for his first win.
With the scheduled Wranglers-Bees non-conference doubleheader scratched because of an umpire situation, the single game was played in regulation nine innings instead of the usual nine innings. It counted for two games in the standings.
So, coach Trent Seamons’ Wranglers (9-8, 4-4 league) moved over the .500 mark at the midpoint of the 2013 season and posted their fifth and sixth road wins. Wood River captured three wins in four games of this week’s eastern Idaho swing.
The Wranglers entertain Madison White from Rexburg Monday, July 8 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Founders Field, Hailey
