On Fourth, patriotism, aliens and celebrities

By WILLY COOK

The thousands of people who turned out Thursday, July 4, for the annual Fourth of July Parade in Hailey were treated to sunny weather and a long line of creative floats. The theme of this year’s parade was “Let freedom ring.” For some children, the ride down Main Street was like no other, top left. An entry from the MASSV music festival didn’t sport a lot of red, white and blue, but aliens driving down Main Street did intrigue the crowd, top right. For one boy in the crowd, there was no better way to show his patriotism than to adorn some red, white and blue face paint, middle. Actress and author Mariel Hemingway got cheers for her participation on behalf of the city’s environmental programs, below right. The “bucking car,” a staple of the parade, pleased the crowd with its colorful gyrations, below left.
