SPORTS SUMMARY

Camas County Rodeo this weekend
Couldn’t make Hailey’s Days of the Old West rodeo this year?
Then put the Camas County Rodeo in Fairfield on your schedule for a great small-town rodeo that is part of a small-town summer celebration.
The Idaho Cowboys Association (ICA)/Intermountain Pro Rodeo Association (ImPRA) rodeo is set for Friday and Saturday, July 12-13 at 6 p.m. at Fairfield Rodeo Arena. Stock is provided by Williams and Ford of Shoshone. Slack performance is Saturday at 10 a.m. Featured will be the standard rough stock and timed rodeo events, plus novice saddle bronc and bullriding, and ranch bronc.
It’s the fifth annual Fairfield rodeo sponsored by the city’s Chamber of Commerce. Added money is $4,800 this year. Ultimate goal of the eight-member rodeo committee is to build a permanent home for the rodeo.

Hole-in-one at Valley Club
Barbara Thrasher aced the second hole on The Valley Club’s South Nine on Saturday, July 6, using a 4-iron from 140 yards. Witnesses were Richard Koffey, Toby Donner and Bill Donner.

Sign up now for Backcountry Run, save some money
Save-money early registration deadline of $30 per person for the 33rd annual Elephant’s Perch Backcountry Run is Wednesday, July 17 through active-com or at The Perch retail store in Ketchum.
This year’s race is being held in honor of the Johanna Olson, the pride of Wadena, Minn. who lost her 15-year battle with brain cancer Jan. 3, 2013 at age 33. While living in Ketchum, Olson won the Backcountry Run 10-miler in 2003-04 and set the then-course record of 1.02:21 nine years ago.
The 2013 event featuring 16.5-mile and 10-mile distances on single track trails in the Adams Gulch and Fox Creek areas is Saturday, July 20 starting at 8 a.m. from the Hulen Meadows Park three miles north of Ketchum. The courses are challenging, with 3,570 of total vertical feet exchanged.
You can also sign up at the Perch (at the shop only, not online) for the $40 late fee Thursday and Friday, July 18-19. There is no race day registration. Pick up race packets Friday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Perch. Post-event includes food, drink, awards and raffle prizes.
Last year there were 220 runners finishing both courses led by Taylor Sundali (1.54:28) and seven-time queen Joelle Vaught (2.12:10) on the 16.5-mile course, and Gus Pelican (56:51) and Morgan Arritola (a course-record 1.00:03) at 10 miles.

Youth lacrosse program offered by Rec District
The Blaine County Recreation District (bcrd.org) is offering a summer youth coed lacrosse program for all abilities in grades 2-7.
