Ketchum relay team captures Hershey gold

Track meet in Rexburg

Blaine County track and field athletes did well in Saturday’s 2013 State Hershey track and field meet at Madison Junior High School in Rexburg.
Winning gold in the Girls’ 11-12 4x100-meter relay was the Ketchum team of Payton Bacca, Jenna Nurge, Madison Ferris and Clara Jenner.
Their winning time was 1:00.15, fastest by over three seconds and an improvement by .42 seconds over their third-place state result last year.
Payton Bacca provided Blaine County’s other gold medal Saturday with a 6-11 standing long jump, just edging out second-place teammate Madison Ferris, who also jumped 6-11 in the day’s closest finish of all 54 events.
In the girls’ 9-10 age class, Hemingway Elementary School’s Paige Madsen captured second places in the 50-meter dash and standing long jump, while Hemingway’s Anna Bernbaum was second in the 400m dash at Rexburg.
Carey’s Dallin Parke placed third in the 100m dash and 400m dash Boys’ 9-10 events.
Another second-place finish came from Carey’s 4x100m Girls’ 11-12 relay team of Lindsey Morey, Chantele Styhl, Athanasia Versis and Bailie Morey. Placing second in Girls’ 13-14 was 1600m runner Kirsys Campbell.
