Cutthroat cagers are back on the court

First hoops games this week

Last year’s Community School boys’ basketball team was built around seven juniors, three of them leading the team in scoring. They were Taylor Adler (10.7 ppg), Reed Roudabush (4.2 ppg) and Doug DuFur (3.8 ppg with 12 3-pointers).

Those three players have returned as seniors for second-year head coach Mike Payne as the Cutthroats launched their 2013-14 campaign Tuesday night with a non-conference game against the Camas County Mushers in Fairfield.

First home game is Thursday, Dec. 19 against Twin Falls Christian Academy. There are nine home games on the 16-game schedule at the Fish Tank in Sun Valley.

Payne said, “I have only three varsity boys returning—Taylor Adler, Reed Roudabush and Doug DuFur. We have one senior who is new to the game, Sam Rogers. He should provide some height and physical play to our inside game.

“It’s a young group of kids but they’re familiar with my offense. This is the second year the varsity and JV teams have been using this offense. They are starting to react naturally to the plays, instead of just going through the motions.

“This team has more athletic talent than last year’s team. I’m excited to get the season underway and watch the improvement and development of these young players.”

Last year’s squad averaged 32.3 ppg on offense and yielded 47.7 ppg on defense. They won two home games and also two league games over Bliss and Camas County within the nine-team 4th District 1A Division 2 Northside Conference.

Here is the 2013-14 Community School roster:
