SVYH Bantams host home tourney Friday

Local skaters win at Idaho Falls


     Sun Valley Youth Hockey Bantam youth hockey players (ages 13-14) will host a seven-team home tournament Friday through Sunday, Dec. 13-15 at Sun Valley Skating Center.

     In Sun Valley’s “Bracket A” are the Boise Steelheads and Utah Golden Eagles. Teams comprising “Bracket B” are the Boise Hawks, Salt Lake City (Utah) Lightning, Idaho Falls Eagles and Salmon.

     Fourteen games are set including Sunday’s third-place game at 9:30 a.m. and a championship contest at 11 a.m.

     Bantam Suns play Boise Steelheads Friday at 7 p.m. and have two games Saturday—skating against Utah Golden Eagles at 9:30 a.m. and against the Boise Steelheads at 5 p.m. On Sunday at 8 a.m., the Suns have a rematch with the Utah Golden Eagles.

     The Bantams are Flynn Stewart, Sophie Nasvik, Ike Buxton, Sam Ballard, Colby Whitehead, Jett Erickson, Nick Smith, Paxton Bunting, Ziggy Slanetz, Henry Raff, Luke Marcouiller, Tiernan Naghsh, Jack Stevens, Alec Broman, James Everitt, Kyle Furlong, David Balcos, Matthew Galgano, Klayton Douthit and Darius Pete.

     Head coach is John Stevens, assisted by Bryan O’Connell and Chad Levitan.

 

Bantams win at Idaho Falls

     The SVYH Bantams traveled to Idaho Falls for the 2013 “Faceoff at the Falls” tournament and took the first-place trophy Sunday, Dec. 8.

     After a 7-5 loss against Idaho Falls, Sun Valley won three in a row—beating Idaho Falls, Jackson Hole and again Idaho Falls. It put the Bantam Suns in their third contest against Idaho Falls for the championship. The Suns won that one by a 6-3 score.

     Top weekend scorers were Ike Buxton (5 goals), Tiernan Naghsh (5 goals, 4 assists), Matt Galgano (5 goals), Henry Raff (4 goals, 2 assists), Flynn Stewart (2 goals, 2 assists) and Jett Erickson (2 goals).

     Singles came from Jack Stevens (1 assist), Paxton Bunting (2 assists), Ziggy Slanetz (1 assist), Luke Marcoullier (1 assist) and Nick Smith. Alec Broman had an assist.

     Goalies James Everitt and David Balkos totaled 75 saves.
