Celebration planned for first SFO flight

First regional jet to land at Friedman Memorial Airport

On Thursday, Dec. 12, a celebration will greet the first nonstop United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Friedman Memorial Airport when the plane touches down at 1:22 p.m. The flight will also be the first into Friedman by a commercial regional jet.
   The Friedman Memorial Airport Authority and its partners that made the service possible—Fly Sun Valley Alliance, Sun Valley Resort and United Airlines—plan to welcome the flight with a “water arch,” cake and beverages, music, welcome gift bags for arriving passengers and a ribbon-cutting.
   To continue the celebration for the passengers of Flight 5634, the Knob Hill Inn will open its doors to a complimentary happy hour from 4:30-6:30 p.m., a news release from Fly Sun Valley Alliance stated.

   The new service was negotiated through minimum-revenue guarantees of an undisclosed amount provided by Sun Valley Resort and Fly Sun Valley Alliance.
   “This inaugural flight is an exciting touchstone in history for the airport and our community,” Airport Authority Chair Ron Fairfax said. “We are proud to be welcoming the first regional jet flight and the first new carrier to serve SUN in over 20 years. We are working collectively to ensure the success of this new service and additional service in the future.”
   The United Express flights will be operated by SkyWest Airlines using a 66-seat CRJ 700 jet.
   The new service will run daily from Dec. 12 through March 30 for the 2013-14 winter season and from July 2 through Sept. 23 for the 2014 summer season. The flight schedule for upcoming winter ski season will be:
- Departs SFO at 10:40 a.m., arrives SUN at 1:22 p.m.
- Departs SUN at 1:57 p.m., arrives SFO at 2:54 p.m.
   Passengers on the flights to Sun Valley will also receive special benefits from Sun Valley Resort. For the upcoming winter season, passengers who present their SFO-SUN boarding pass to the Sun Valley ticket window will receive a free demo ski/board package or a free morning two-hour group lesson the day following arrival. Some date restrictions apply.
