Mal Prior headed to World University Games

Dec. 11-21 meet in Italy

Mal Prior

Ketchum’s Mallam Prior, in his ninth year of competitive snowboarding, is headed to the World University Games (WUG) on Mount Bondone at Trentino, Italy Dec. 11-21.

A senior at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, Prior is due to compete in boardercross and halfpipe during the international, multi-sport gathering for university athletes.

Ten men and six women from Westminster received prestigious invitations to attend the World Games, staged every two years for athletes in winter and summer sports like figure and speedskating, ice hockey, curling, skiing, snowboarding and ski jumping.

Prior is an alumni of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.

Last March at Sun Valley Resort, Prior captured his second consecutive individual national championship at the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (UCSCA) finals. His halfpipe title helped the Griffins men’s team to second place in the team ranks.

Prior visited his Ketchum home over the Thanksgiving holiday. He is majoring in Neuroscience at Westminster. Last year he achieved Dean’s List recognition with a 4.0 grade point average.
