Lunafest films strengthen Girls on the Run

Granny’s Got Game follows a group of septuagenarian women who don’t let age and ailments stop them from doing what they love—playing basketball. Their team, the “Fabulous Seventies,” is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and competes in senior tournaments around the United States.     Keep those legs moving and those spirits high all year long by supporting the annual Wood River Girls on the Run Lunafest and online auction.
   The films, all related to empowerment of girls, will be shown Saturday, Dec. 7, at the nexStage Theater in Ketchum.
   This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range in style from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
   The evening will include a reception, silent auction and film screenings. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for students and $50 for special “Red Carpet Reception” seekers who buy in advance online at www.girlsontherunwrv.org or at Sturtevants in Ketchum or Sturtos in Hailey. Tickets at the door will increase to $25 for adults, $10 for students and $60 for the Red Carpet Reception.
   For a shot at some unique auction items, visit the web and bid on a variety of offerings, including a month’s membership to Zenergy Health Club and Spa, a blue jean party at the Blues Jean Bar in Ketchum, a wild horse print by photographer Mark Oliver, and an original painting by artist Melissa Graves Brown.
   Proceeds go to aid the Breast Cancer Fund and the local self-esteem-building club Girls on the Run.
