Rangers on top of old time hockey

    Sneaking a season-opening hockey meet into the Sun Val-ley slack calendar for the 12th year, the host Ketchum Rang-ers won the six-team Sun Val-ley Season Opener 50-and-over hockey tournament Sunday at Sun Valley Skating Center.
    The Rangers (2-0-2) emerged unbeaten over three days of skating for teams from Idaho, Montana and Washington. They defeated the Bozeman (Mt.) Flying Zambonis 4-1, tied the Seattle Rogues 4-4 and the Boise Blues Brothers 3-3, then beat Seattle 4-3 in the final.
    Tim Jeneson, Dick Nelson, Dave MacMillan and Brad Dredge scored in the title game as goalie Tony Benson manned the net all four games.
    Other Rangers for general manager John Heinrich in the “A Pool” were Pete Prekeges, Rod Watson, Jeff Ballou, Mike Punnett, Greg Townley, Shaun Mahoney, Baird Gourlay and Tom Trieschman.
    Goalie Karen Morrison’s Karen’s Old Boyz squad placed second to Bozeman in “B Pool.”

Aardvarks, Bad Dogs go 3-0 in B+ hockey

    Aardvarks (3-0) and Hutch’s Bad Dogs (3-0) remained un-beaten in the B+ Hockey League during Sunday night adult recreational league play at Sun Valley Skating Center.
    Rob Prew scored twice and Eric Wingard and Chris Cor-win added singles lifting Aard-varks 4-2 over Flounders (1-2). Assists for the winners came from Bryan Speth, Crugar Thomas and Rod Watson. Gun-ner Whitehead accounted for both Flounders goals.
    Hutch’s Bad Dogs blanked Sharks (0-3) by a score of 3-0 behind goals by Baba Street, Alex Baron and Andy Bloedorn. Mark Elsbree as-sisted for the Bad Dogs.
    Sun Valley Auto Club/Vipers (1-2) earned its first win 5-2 over Lampl’s Ga-rage (1-2) on goals from Travis Killmer (2), Chris Salvatierra (2) and Gavin McNeil. Scott Seaward and Bill Sprong had Vipers assists. Goal scorers for Lampl’s were Chris Peterson and Clark Shafer, and Lacie Hernandez added an assist.
    B+ and B League games on Sunday, Dec. 1 are Sharks vs. Flounders at 4 p.m., Bad Dogs vs. Vipers at 5:15 p.m., Lampl’s vs. Aardvarks at 6:30 p.m., Blues vs. Racers at 7:45 p.m. and Flyers vs. Wolves at 9 p.m.
