Thanksgiving meal
The public is invited to share in a Thanksgiving holiday feast from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Hailey.
The dinner will be served in the Parish Hall to the right of the church at Pine and First streets.
Senior project focuses
on India’s poor
Kailey Wilt, a senior at Wood River High School, will present “Open Hands,” an exhibition of her photography from India as part of her senior project, which was learning the operations of an art gallery. The works will be shown as part of the Gallery Walk on Friday, Nov. 28, at Friesen Gallery, 320 First Ave. N. in Ketchum.
Proceeds from Wilt’s sales will go to the Salaam Baalak Trust, an organization that houses and educates children who live in the metropolitan slums of India.
Hailey Holiday Raffle starts Dec. 7
The Hailey Chamber of Commerce has announced the dates of the popular Hailey Holiday Raffle. This year, the chamber will hold the raffle in the Hailey Holiday Square downtown at 3 p.m. each Saturday starting Dec. 7 through Sat. Dec. 21. Raffle prizes include Hailey Chamber Bucks, as well as prizes from Hailey restaurants, shops and service providers.
The Hailey Holiday Square will also host a holiday celebration each of the three Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The celebrations will feature Santa, various music groups, warm refreshments and vendors, all next to benches surrounding a warm fire pit.
Hailey shoppers will receive one raffle ticket for every $10 spent at participating businesses, with a limit of 25 tickets per purchase. Five raffles will take place from Dec. 7 to Dec. 21. Players must be present to win.
Holiday service to warm
hearts and minds
To help instill the spirit of the season, St. Thomas Episcopal Church and St. Thomas Playhouse will host a service called “Reflections on Christ’s Nativity” on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church in Sun Valley.
All members of the community are invited to ponder the true meaning of Christmas—joyful expectation and celebration along with the gift of Jesus. In addition to Old and New Testament readings, the service is unique in offering several poetry readings, including selections by Gerard Manley Hopkins, Anne Sexton, Emily Dickinson and Donald Hall (Poet Laureate 2007).
Christmas music and meditative prayers will be interspersed throughout the service. Immediately after, there will be a reception in the parish hall with food, wine and sparkling cider.
Girls on the Run film fest starts with online auction
Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley will show films related to girl empowerment at the annual Lunafest, to be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at the nexStage Theater in Ketchum.
The evening will include a reception, silent auction and films. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for students and $50 for special “Red Carpet Reception” seekers who buy in advance online at www.girlsontherunwrv.org or at Sturtevants in Ketchum or Sturtos in Hailey.
Tickets will cost $25/$10/$60 respectively at the door the day of the show.
For a shot at some unique auction items, visit the web and bid on a variety of offerings, including a one month membership to Zenergy Health Club and Spa, a blue-jean party at the Blue Jeans Bar in Ketchum, a wild horse photo by photographer Mark Oliver and more.
Proceeds go to aid the Breast Cancer Fund and the local self-esteem building club Girls on the Run.
Festival of Trees partners
with tree experts
The Senior Connection and the Sawtooth Botanical Garden have partnered for the 15th annual Festival of Trees fundraiser, which will benefit both entities.
First will be the Open House and Tree Viewing at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden south of Ketchum, on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5-7 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the free event
Then, it’s the much anticipated Fashion Show by Paula’s Dress Shop at The Senior Connection in Hailey on Friday, Dec. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will offer a luncheon, champagne and wine. Tickets are $50 each or $350 for a table of eight.
Finally, the Gala Event at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, starting with signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music by Colla Voce, a raffle and tree auction. Tickets cost $100 per person.
Raffle tickets are also available for $10each or six for $50. The raffle features five big prizes, including a full-season ski pass, a private wild-game dinner for eight, two $500 Atkinsons’ gift cards and a $2,000 jeweled pendant necklace. Tickets are available by calling The Senior Connection or the Sawtooth Botanical Garden. The winner need not be present to win.

Making money with salsa moves
The Young Wolverines Spanish Club is trying to get to Puerto Rico next year and their instructor, Jorge Pulleiro, is donating his salsa-dancing skills to aid in the cause.
The Wood River Middle School cafeteria will become a dance floor on Dec. 6, with two sessions at $20 each.
No experience is needed but pre-registration is required. Babysitting can be provided.
