A 67-year-old Carey man has been released from a Pocatello hospital where he was flown by emergency helicopter after being injured in a Sunday evening accident near the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Little Wood Reservoir Road in northern Carey.
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Donald V. Gibson. He was initially cared for by personnel from Carey Fire & Quick Response and then flown to Portneuf Medical Center.
Sheriff Gene Ramsey said the accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. when Gibson lost control of a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup. Ramsey said the vehicle skidded more than several hundred feet before it nose-dived down an embankment and rolled on its side.
Ramsey said the vehicle received substantial damage and Gibson was injured when he bumped his head on the windshield.
The sheriff said Gibson faces charges of failure to maintain his lane of traffic, failure to use a safety restraint, failure to provide proof of insurance and misdemeanor driving under the influence.
