Public can learn about Waldorf school

Syringa Mountain School to open next fall

    The public is being provided the opportunity to learn about Syringa Mountain School, set to open next fall as Blaine County’s first charter school, at an informational meeting scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 21.
   The meeting, featuring Mary Goral, author and Waldorf education expert, as keynote speaker, begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Minnie Moore Room at the Community Campus on Fox Acres Road in Hailey.
   Although a location for the school has not been announced, founders intend that the school be located in Hailey. Formation of the school, for grades K-5, was approved by the Idaho Public Charter School Commission in August. As a state charter school, it will operate with both public funding and donations.
   As with the private Mountain School near Bellevue, which is set to close at the end of the current school year, Syringa Mountain School will use the Waldorf education methodology.
   “Our school provides a rigorous, integrated educational program that offers Waldorf education in the public school setting and develops students who are compassionate, eco-literate, critical thinkers prepared to meet the demands of their changing world,” states a school news release.
   At the Nov. 21 meeting, Goral, who has a doctorate degree and with a career in education of more than 30 years, will present a lecture entitled “Schooling for a Regenerative Future: Lessons from Waldorf Education.”
   “When it comes to implementing Waldorf education, Dr. Goral is the expert,” said Mary Gervase, administrator of Syringa Mountain School. “We are so fortunate to benefit from her expertise. Anyone who wants to develop a better understanding of Syringa Mountain School will not want to miss this talk.
   “This is an opportunity to learn about the curriculum and instruction and understand how Waldorf education can create a positive impact for our community.”
   The meeting will include a question-and-answer session.

Meeting rescheduled
Syringa Mountain School’s public information meeting, now set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, was originally set for Tuesday, Nov. 19, but was rescheduled because of a conflict that evening with a Blaine County School District public meeting on Idaho Core Standards.
