Spook Splash gives young 5B swimmers a shot

Pre-Halloween contest in Idaho Falls

    Twelve younger members of the Sun Valley 5B Swim Team traveled to the annual Spook Splash Invitational meet staged Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26 in Idaho Falls.
   Coach Brian Gallagher’s swimmers joined 250 others from 16 southeast Idaho teams at the short course USA-sanctioned meet held at the Wes Deist Aquatic Center.
   Leading 5B with fastest times of the day in Boys’ 13-14 was Mason Johnson, 13, with a first place in the 100 backstroke and second in 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle.
   Backing him with points in the 11-12 age class was Zack Deal, 12, with four wins (50/100 free, 50 breast, 100 IM) and sec-ond in 200 free. Winning twice in age 9-10 was Eva Carson, 10, in 50 fly and breast, plus second in 200 free and third place in the 100 free and 100 IM.
   Gallagher praised excellent swims and personal-best times by:
   Boys’ 11-12: Isaac Loomis 50 and 100 free, 50 fly, 50 back and 100 IM.
   Girls’ 9-10: Belle Clayton (50 and 100 free, 50 back); Maggie Deal (50 and 100 free, 50 back and 50 breast); Cadence Campbell (50 and 100 free, 50 back, 50 breast).
   Girls’ 11-12: Faye Prekeges (100 and 200 free, 50 fly, 50 back and 100 IM); Q Clayton (50 and 100 free, 50 back, 50 breast, and 100 IM); Emma Pulliero (50 and 100 free, 50 fly, 50 back and 100 IM).
   Girls’ 13-14: M. Clayton (50 and 100 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 200 IM); Kirsys Campbell (50, 100 and 200 free).
   Girls’ 15-16: Ashlie Pulliero (50, 100 and 200 free and 100 back).
   The SV5B girls’ 9-10 relay teams placed second in 200 medley with Belle Clayton, Maggie Deal, Eva Carson and Cadence Campbell, and took fourth in 200 free with Maggie Deal, Clayton, Carson and Campbell.
   Gallagher will take the en-tire SV5B squad to the Boise Thanksgiving Invitational Nov. 15-17, one of the largest USA-sanctioned age-group meets in the Northwest. Over 600 com-petitors from 30 teams are ex-pected at the three-day event.
