Open house for SVSEF’s expanded space

Nov. 22 at Greyhawk

    On Friday, Nov. 22, the pub-lic is welcome to view the im-provements to the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s operating space in the Grey-hawk Building located at the bottom of Warm Springs.
   The SVSEF open house is Nov. 22 from 3:30-7 p.m. at the Engl Training Center, 215 Pi-cabo St. in Ketchum. Ribbon cutting will occur at 4 p.m.
   For 26 years since acquiring a 2,300 square-foot space in the Greyhawk Building in 1987, the SVSEF has been located on the second floor of the three-story facility located walking dis-tance from Warm Springs Lodge and the ski run.
   SVSEF administrative of-fices and locker rooms were acquired and built in two phases in 1990 and 1992 from two condominiums on the sec-ond floor. At that time, the space housed alpine and snow-board athletes, coaches as well as a fledgling freestyle pro-gram.
   Demolition work on old locker rooms kicked off the recent expansion in June. Ad-ministration offices and coaches’ quarters are now lo-cated on a newly acquired third-floor space in the same building.
   SVSEF communications manager Jody Zarkos said over the past year, a trio of longtime SVSEF supporters—Steve Sha-fran, Kipp Nelson and Jack Bunce—bought a 1,600 square-foot condominium on the third floor of the Greyhawk Building and offered to lease it to the SVSEF for $1 per year.
   In addition the donor group provided the SVSEF with a significant cash gift of $175,000 to support the initiation of a $1.5 million capital campaign to pay for the renovations.
