Ketchum man convicted of selling cocaine

    A 32-year-old Ketchum man will get the opportunity to mend his ways for selling cocaine to a police confidential informant.
    Joshua L. Buell was sentenced Monday to the Idaho Department of Correction “rider program,” which provides convicted felons with the opportunity to rehabilitate instead of going to prison. The judgment, from Blaine County 5th District Court Judge Robert J. Elgee, provides that Buell can be held in the program for up to 365 days.
    Elgee further imposed a six-year suspended prison sentence, fined Buell $1,000, ordered him to pay court costs of $280.50 and found that he owed restitution of $1,375, with $100 going to the Idaho State Police Forensic Services laboratory in Meridian and the remainder to the Blaine County Narcotics Enforcement Team.
Buell, who had been free on $10,000 bond, was taken into custody at the conclusion of the hearing.
He pleaded guilty to the crime in August.
Ketchum Police Chief Steve Harkins, who also directs the Narcotics Enforcement Team, said earlier that Buell sold 3.5 grams of cocaine in a prearranged deal to a confidential informant in January. Buell was charged with the crime in April.
