Walton guesses right, wins Rotarun ski pass

Hailey’s Rotarun Ski Area received its first appreciable snowfall last week—and a lucky local woman earned a season ski pass for guessing most accurately at just when the first snow would arrive.

Andrea Walton, 27, of Hailey guessed that the first appreciable snowfall on Rotarun Ski Hill would be Oct. 30, and was the closest to the actual first snowfall on Oct. 28. Walton won a 2013-14 season pass to Rotarun for her forecasting.

Cyclocross in Caldwell

Try the SkiErg at HardCore

For the second straight year, HardCore Training Center in Ketchum hosts the SkiErg World Sprints Saturday, Nov. 9 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. The event is free to the public, but the cost is roughly four minutes of HardCore fun pulling on the SkiErg device, organizer Bill Nurge said.

Anyone can try to complete 1,000 meters on the Concept 2 SkiErg machine. Nurge said, “Last year there were five locals who finished Top-8 in the world and this year we hope to see even faster times.”

Prizes are awarded to age group winners, and the facility itself can be eligible for a raffle to win a new SkiErg machine. There will also be a coed team competition with prizes for the fastest combined team.

Call Nurge at 720-1829 to reserve a start time. The facility is located at 540 N. 1st Ave. in Ketchum near the Idaho Mountain Express office. Visit hardcoretrainingcenter.com.
