For bad ideas, this takes the cake

Of all the silliness concocted by past and present city councils, the whitewater park wins the prize.
Wonderful whitewater rivers can be found all over Idaho, so what our council has envisioned is “Disney-lite”: a few harmless dips and a major overhaul of the area that now hosts abundant wildlife and an assortment of locals and tourists who enjoy the pond.
Look at the plan submitted by a company more accustomed to designing major waterways for Olympians. Their plan changes the contours of the river, completely alters the landscape, tears up natural habitat and puts parking in its place, replaces the bridge, erects concrete outhouses—all for what? Not for the serious kayaker, certainly. And the cost? These projects never come in on budget, so we locals will be hit and taxed for the shortfall. Count on it.
The Big Wood River is small and lovely; it fits our town and our way of life. Improve the pond, yes, but if this water park is the best dream Mayor Randy Hall and the current City Council has for our community, we should consider new leaders.
