Thomas Carl “Bud” Roseberry was born June 6, 1927, in Pawhuska, Okla., the son of Thomas Roseberry and Jenevieve Walton Roseberry. The family moved to Idaho when Bud was a baby, traveling across country to Richfield, Idaho, in a swing in the back seat of a Model T Ford. He grew up in Marley and attended school in Richfield.
Bud enlisted in the Navy and was honorably discharged in September of 1944. He married his high school sweetheart, Veta Ann Cooper, on June 9, 1944, in Shoshone, Idaho, and they renewed their wedding vows Dec. 15, 2012, in Ketchum, Idaho. Together they raised four children. Bud rode bulls, broncs and roped in the area rodeos and was a cowboy for life. He was inducted into the Idaho Legends of Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2005.
He moved his family to Jerome in 1954 and began work as a state brand inspector. He was honored with the State of Idaho Certificate of Recognition in 1978 by then-Gov. Evans. He was the happiest on his horse and working with cattle. He was a man of compassion, integrity and humility, with a fun-loving spirit and a great love for life and his family. Bud was a proud member of the Peoria Tribe of Oklahoma and had relatives in Lakota Tribe of Sioux in South Dakota.
Bud and Veta resided at Willowbrook Assisted Living in Twin Falls for the past year, where he will be remembered for his dancing. He passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, with his family by his side and his boots on. We thank the staff at Willowbrook for their kindness and care, as well as Visions Hospice for letting him go with dignity.
Bud is survived by his four children, Karen Roseberry of Ketchum, Karla Roseberry Gonzalez (Felix) of Ketchum, Blake Roseberry (Robyn) of Albion Pa., and Steve Roseberry (Ann) of Middleton, Idaho. He is also survived by five grandchildren: his favorite granddaughter, Jennie Gridley of Meridian, Ben and Bud Gonzalez of Ketchum, and Joe and Sam Roseberry of Middleton; and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Madison and Ella Jo Gridley of Meridian. Anita Renner of Gooding and Roxy Sorensen of Richfield are his two surviving sisters. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Kosofsky; his parents; and three brothers, Chester, Don and Jerry.
