BRIEFS

Some prison records can be sealed
BOISE, Idaho (AP)— The Idaho Department of Correction and attorneys representing inmates at the Idaho State Correctional Institution have quietly reached an agreement that could permanently hide from public view nearly every record connected to the medical care provided at the prison.
The protective order was approved by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill on Friday in a 32-year-old lawsuit over substandard care and other civil rights violations at ISCI.  The order allows the state or the inmates’ attorneys to designate any record confidential if they think it’s needed to protect trade secrets, medical privacy, or for security reasons. They may even designate a document as confidential if they think the public release would be “unduly detrimental” to the interests of third parties.
IDOC Director Brent Reinke was not immediately available for comment.

Missing hiker found dead near Stanley
CHALLIS, Idaho (AP)— A search team in central Idaho has recovered the body of a 55-year-old man who was reported missing by his hiking partner.
Custer County officials say a woman reported the man missing on Saturday evening. She said they became separated while hiking and she could not locate him. He was last seen on the trail to Saddleback Lakes in the Sawtooth Mountains northeast of Stanley.
Searchers found the man’s body at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. His name hasn’t been released.
