A 29-year-old Hailey man who was shot in the abdomen during a confrontation Saturday evening was listed in fair condition at a Boise hospital on Tuesday. Hailey police reported earlier that Anthony Parsons was in “critical but stable condition” when flown by emergency helicopter to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
Meanwhile, the man accused of shooting Parsons, 30-year-old Adam Keith Boyd, also of Hailey, remained incarcerated Tuesday in the Blaine County jail on $75,000 bond. Boyd has been charged with aggravated battery, a felony.
Boyd was formally charged with the crime at an initial court appearance Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. The Roark Law Firm was appointed as public defender and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 25.
Hailey police reported that the shooting occurred during an argument over money at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday near the Subway sandwich shop on Main Street.
Assistant Police Chief Dave Stellers wrote in a probable cause affidavit that Boyd remained at the scene of the shooting and voluntarily gave police the weapon, described as a .40-caliber FNX automatic pistol.
Stellers wrote that the confrontation occurred when Parsons confronted another man, Nathan DeFord, 25, outside of the Subway shop after DeFord, an employee, had closed the shop. He wrote that Parsons was upset about money that DeFord owed him and became physically abusive to DeFord and Boyd when Boyd attempted to calm the situation down.
During the confrontation, Stellers reported, Boyd went to his vehicle and got the weapon. He wrote that Parsons saw the gun and became more abusive toward Boyd, who attempted to walk away from the confrontation.
Stellers wrote that Parsons followed Boyd to his vehicle, “threw him into the car head first” and knocked him to the ground. Stellers wrote that Boyd said Parsons began kicking him when he was on the ground and that Boyd rolled onto his back and pointed the gun at Parsons and shot him. Police said Parsons was shot in the midsection.
According to the report, DeFord called 911 after the shooting and remained on the line with a dispatcher until police arrived at the scene.
Parsons was initially transported by Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River hospital. He was flown by emergency helicopter from there to Saint Alphonsus.
Stellers wrote that the incident remains under investigation and that police had not been able to interview Parsons.
