A hiker who died last weekend in the Redfish Lake area has been identified as a Ketchum man, 55-year-old Ron B. Eliggi.
KTVB-TV reported that Eliggi’s body was found in the water at the base of Saddleback Falls. Custer County authorities said they believe that Eliggi slipped on a rock slab at the top of the falls, was swept away by the water and crashed into rocks below.
A search for Eliggi was started Saturday evening after hiking partners reported that he had become separated from them on the trail to Saddleback Lakes. A massive search was conducted involving numerous search and rescue organizations.
KTVB reported that Eliggi’s body was found at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Also, the television station reported that Eliggi was on medication for a medical condition and may have become disoriented when separated from his hiking partners.
