5B swimmers sizzle at Four-State Championships


     Six members of Sun Valley 5B Swim Team traveled to Missoula, Mont. to compete in a four-state Long Course Summer Championship Meet held July 5-7. 5B’s qualifying swimmers competed against 200 swimmers from Montana, Alaska, Washington and Idaho.
    According to Coach Brian Gallagher, “this was the first year that this four-state meet was held and the qualifying times were extremely fast; I am extremely proud of the team’s results. The competition was tough and we swam well for a mid-summer meet.”
    Fourteen year-old Maddie Johnson continued her winning streak by capturing five first place finishes in the 100 and 200 Fly; 200 and 400 Intermediate; 400 Free, and was just touched out in the 200 Back for a second place finish.
    Chiloe Spelius, 14, made the top eight finals in four of her events, finishing with a second place in the 100 Fly; seventh place in the 50 Free and 200 Intermediate; and sixth in the 100 Free. She placed 15th in the 100 Back in the prelim round.
    Fifteen year-old Ashley Dreyfus swam to the top ten in two of her events, seventh in the 200 Breast finals and ninth in the 100 Breast. She finished 12th in the 100 Fly, 24th in the 200 Intermediate, and 25th in the 50 Free.
    Kaedi Fry, 16, made top eight finals in five events, placing third in the 400 Free, fourth in the 100 Breast, fifth in the 200 Free, sixth in the 200 Intermediate and seventh in the 100 Back. She finished 13th in the 100 Fly in the prelim round.
    Nineteen year-old Elizabeth Fry, a sophomore member of the Linfield College Wildcat Swim Team and swimming for 5B this summer, won two final events. She won in the 400 and 1500 Free, and placed third in the 400 Intermediate and seventh in the 100 Breast to round out her top eight performances.  Fry also swam to a 12th place finish in the 200 Intermediate and 15th in the 100 Fly in the preliminary round.
    Twelve year-old Zach Deal placed in five final events, winning two: the 50 Breast and the 50 Free. Deal he raced to third in the 100 Breast, fourth in the 50 Fly, and fifth in the 100 Free.
    Gallagher took the entire 5B squad to Boise, July 19-21, for the Snake River LCM Summer Championships.
