Wood River American Legion finishes year with win, but misses post season

Wranglers finish year 14-17 overall

By JON MENTZER

As another season comes to a close, the Wood River American Legion baseball squad will take the rest of the summer off. The Wranglers ended the season on a high note, but weren’t able to make the post season.
Coach Trent Seamons and the boys finished the year with a 10-7 victory over Shelley on Saturday, July 20 at Founders’ Field in Hailey.
The Wranglers left the season 14-17 overall and 7-4 at home. They were 7-11 away from home and 9-10 in league play.
The winning pitcher to close the season was Adrian Rojas who threw strikes all day and was able to get run support to compliment his outing.
The game was close for the majority of the time, but in the sixth inning, Wood River’s bats woke up and began hitting the ball. The Wranglers looked for a moral boost after a hard-fought year that saw the hopes of the post season glimmer, but ultimately fade away.
“I think this game left them excited and hungry,” Seamons said. “We’re taking a step in the right direction. The guys didn’t have many wins in the spring, but the program is moving the right direction.”
Wood River played Canyon Ridge on Friday, July 19, which was the most crucial of double-headers of the season. With hopes of making the post season, Wood River needed some help from Burley to beat Twin Falls on Friday. Burley did its job as it swept Twin Falls earlier in the day; however, Canyon Ridge would go on and sweep Wood River, crushing their chances.
Canyon Ridge won 13-3 in the first game and 14-1 in the second game.
Finn Isaacson received the loss in the first game and Cam Benson got the loss in the second.
“Finn was pitching well, but Canyon Ridge started hitting the ball,” Seamons said.
Isaacson was the most consistent player Wood River had all season contributing greatly on the mound and at the plate.
“Our pitchers did really well this year, there’s a lot of promise the next couple of years,” added Seamons. “This league was really tough.”
