Street Meet

By WILLY COOK

Businesses near the intersection of Fourth Street West and Washington Avenue in Ketchum collaborated on a street party Saturday, celebrating anniversaries, the approaching winter and a fine Indian Summer. Event organizer Jim Slanetz, owner of the Board Bin for the last 25 years, said it was time to showcase the vibrancy of business life on Fourth Street west of Main Street. He suggested a street party to other longtime businesses, such as Java, more than 20 years, Despos, 30 years, The Toy Store, 35 years, Johnny G’s Subshack, 15 years, Rickshaw and Bavarian Soul, and they agreed. Clockwise from top: In addition to three other bands, Nashville, Tenn., recording artist McKenna Faith graced the stage on Fourth Street and sold out her performance at Whiskey Jacques’ later that night. The 18-year-old has recently recorded her second country album, “We Like Trucks,” featuring Toby Keith’s band. She has already shared the stage with country stars such as Trace Adkins and Blake Shelton, and hopefully has a promising future ahead of her. One of the games offered at the party was ping-pong. Rickshaw donated its table and three more were rounded up for a tournament with nice prizes. The Board Bin/Girl Street crew has plenty of experience among them. From left to right are Benji Charles, nine years, David Kelso, 21 years, co-owner Karin Reichow, 26 years, co-owner Jim Slanetz, 26 years, and Lydia Wills, 18 years. Little year- and-a-half-old Hudson Grabos seemed ready for action. A skateboard slalom course was also offered to ensure fun for all of the kids. According to dad A.J. Grabos, “Hudson just got his first pair of skis and is hoping to make the transition to snowboarding soon.”
