Two of three charges have been dismissed against a former Silver Creek High School senior who was accused of having a weapon at school and of accessing bomb-making websites on a school computer.
According to Blaine County court records, 18-year-old Colton Emory Turner pleaded guilty in Blaine County Magistrate Court on June 19 to possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. In exchange for his guilty plea, two other misdemeanor charges, possession of a controlled substance and possessing a weapon on school property, were dismissed.
On the paraphernalia charge, Turner was placed on probation for two years and sentenced to 76 days in jail but given credit for 76 days already spent behind bars.
Turner nonetheless remains in custody with the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections for a felony grand theft conviction against him when he was a juvenile. His sentence is indeterminate but according to court records the Department of Juvenile Corrections can hold him until he is 21.
Turner was originally on probation on the grand theft charge with a condition that he remain in school.
He was arrested on a probation violation charge on April 4 at Silver Creek High School when it was reported to authorities that Turner was accessing bomb-making and other inappropriate websites on a school computer, a situation that would lead to suspension or expulsion.
Hailey police reported that while Turner was being searched a small amount of the illegal drug “spice,” a pipe and an unused red flare were found in his backpack. Police determined that the flare could be used as a deadly weapon.
