School board OKs tech upgrades

New data cables to be installed at 2 schools

    The Blaine County School District board of trustees has unanimously approved contracts for installing new data cables at Hemingway Elementary School and Wood River Middle School.
   The vote came at a special meeting late Tuesday afternoon.
   District Business Manager Mike Chatterton said Wednesday that it was important to get the contracts awarded so that work could be completed this summer.
   “We just wanted to get the contractors on board so they could do the work while other construction is going on at the schools and not to hold up the start date of school,” Chatterton said.
   The contract for the Middle School was for $35,687 and went to Maestro Technology Solutions of Hailey. The contract for Hemingway was for $34,396 and went to QCI Inc. of Boise.
   Chatterton said the new data cables are needed because of more technology now in use at the schools.
   “It’s to run our Internet lines and all the connections to the routers and computers,” he said.
