Agency OKs East Fork bus turnout

Lloyd Construction awarded contract for $44,000

The Mountain Rides Transportation Authority board of directors last week unanimously approved awarding a $44,000 contract to Lloyd Construction, of Ketchum, to build a new bus turnout just north of the intersection of East Fork Road and state Highway 75.
Approval came at a special meeting on Friday, June 21. Executive Director Jason Miller said it was important to get the contract awarded so that work could be completed this summer.
“It was within budget and everybody was happy with that,” Miller said.
At a board meeting in May, the directors voted to not award a contract to Lloyd Construction because the company’s bid was $6,000 higher than the $44,000 Mountain Rides budgeted for the work. The decision was made at the May meeting to put the project out for bid again.
Mountain Rides has a federal grant of $38,000 to pay for the project and needs to pay the remainder with local matching funds.
The bus turnout will be constructed alongside the east side of the highway. It will include asphalt paving for the turnout, a sidewalk and a bus shelter.
Mountain Rides already has a bus stop for its Valley Route at the site, but buses now just pull to the side of the road.
“It will greatly improve the safety and comfort for passengers at that particular stop,” Miller said.
Miller said he expects work on the turnout to be finished by the end of August.
