Northside volleyball title to Lions

WRHS plays for state berth

Last year’s State 1A Division 2 champ Lighthouse Christian of Twin Falls captured its first Northside Conference volleyball tournament title Wednesday with an easy three-game victory over No. 2-seeded Camas County of Fairfield, at Dietrich.

The Lions ran the table with an undefeated 17-0 record in district matches this season including tournament wins over the Community School, No. 4 Richfield and Camas. Dietrich had won last year’s league tourney in five games over Lighthouse, then the Lions went on to take the state title.

Camas County, three-time state champ from 2009-11, waited for the winner of Thursday’s loser-out match between No. 3 Dietrich and Richfield to settle the district’s second entry to the State 1A Division 2 tournament Nov. 1 at Lewiston.

The No. 6 Carey Panthers (12-13) lost to Dietrich, beat Murtaugh and lost to Richfield during the tournament.

Meanwhile, the No. 3 Wood River High School Wolverines played No. 2 Canyon Ridge of Twin Falls Thursday night for the second Great Basin Conference berth to the State 4A tournament. Top-seeded Twin Falls (32-6) defeated Wood River 25-8, 25-9, 25-14 Tuesday for its fifth straight league title.
