Expert to give seminar called ‘Is it Capitalism?’

    The Sun Valley Center for the Arts continues to offer events in conjunction with its exhibition “Stories of a Changing China.”
   The public is invited to join The Center’s curators and gallery guides at The Center in Ketchum wine and a tour Thursday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m.
   Since its opening on Aug. 30, the show has attracted hundreds of visitors—from Gallery Walk guests and walk-ins to school tours. Featured work includes sculpture, painting, photography and a dramatic site-specific installation—each expressing themes The Center has been examining in lectures, workshops and films on China.
   “The exhibition includes work by both Chinese and Western artists inspired by the rapid economic, social and cultural changes taking place in China today,” said Courtney Gilbert, curator of visual arts at The Center. “The ideas that inform the artwork are the same ideas that we’re exploring in other parts of the project.”
   The Center will present another seminar discussion on the social and economic realities of the 21st century China with Wharton School professor Marshall Meyer. “Is It Capitalism?” is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. Meyer led the first seminar of this series, “A Tale of Two Firms,” in September.
    Tickets for “Is It Capitalism?” are $25 for Center members and $40 for non-members. They are available online at www.sunvalleycenter.org or at The Center, 726-9491, ext. 110. A reading list for the class is also available at www.sunvalleycenter.org.
