Beat hunger this month

Events slated to raise awareness and stock pantries

    The film “A Place at the Table” tells the powerful stories of three Americans battling hunger, who maintain their dignity even as they struggle just to eat.
   In a riveting journey that will no doubt change how you think about the hungry, “A Place at the Table” shows how the issue could be solved, once the American public decides that ending hunger is in the best interest of everyone.
   In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month this month, The Hunger Coalition will present the film tonight, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Wood River Performing Arts Center at the Community Campus in Hailey.
   According to a news release from The Hunger Coalition, Ketchum resident Baird Gourlay, who attended the movie with his wife, said, “Chelle and I were so moved by ‘A place at the Table’ that we signed up to volunteer immediately after the showing. Fifty million ‘food insecure’ people in the U.S., 17 million of those are children, is unacceptable. We have 3,000 ‘food insecure’ in the Wood River Valley. Please go see this movie.”
   The screening is free.

The Hunger Coalition will present the film tonight, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Wood River Performing Arts Center.

   For National Food Day, which is Thursday, Oct. 24, the Hunger Coalition is hosting a door-to-door food drive. Sage School students will be canvassing valley neighborhoods, including: Deerfield, Della View, Foxmoor, Hulen Meadows, Northridge, Old Hailey and West Ketchum.
