Travelers can expect delays in Shoshone

Work starts at junction of Highways 93 and 26

    The Idaho Transportation Department has announced that work began Monday to reconstruct roadways and sidewalks at the junction of U.S. Highway 93 and U.S. Highway 26 at the railroad crossing in Shoshone. The project is expected to impact traffic for about two months and should be completed by the end of September.
   The work is being performed by Valley Paving, of Bellevue, under a $388,000 contract with ITD.
   The project involves reconstructing the roadway through the junction on both the north and south sides of the railroad crossing. The project will also involve replacing several areas of curb, gutter and sidewalk adjacent to the roadway reconstruction to improve storm water drainage and to comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
   ITD cautioned that drivers can expect delays and that traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the construction zone. ITD reminds drivers to watch for flaggers during the duration of the work.
   During construction, there is a 10-foot width limit for large trucks. ITD suggests that drivers consider an alternative route to avoid traffic conflicts.
   The project also included work in June by Union Pacific Railroad to reconstruct the railroad crossing.
