SPORTS SUMMARY

Softball nationals a success for Blaine County Title

The number is “69” and counting for Ketchum’s Bob Sarchett, a high achieving slow-pitch softball player who is looking forward to next summer on the diamond when he’s 70 and still legging out hits.

Sarchett was the catcher for the Blaine County Title-sponsored “Codgers” squad that competed Sept. 30-Oct. 3 in Las Vegas, Nev. at a national AAA slow-pitch tournament in the Men’s 65-and-over division. The “Codgers” traveled with 14 players to the Sin City.

The “Codgers” won seven of their 10 games in the tournament and placed sixth of the 24 teams in their division. They narrowly lost by a single run to big-city teams from Denver, Colo. and Los Angeles, while posting wins over teams from Syracuse, N.Y., San Antonio, Texas and San Francisco. One day, they played five games.

“It was a total team effort,” said Sarchett, the No. 6 batter in the lineup. He ripped 23 hits in 32 at-bats for a .719 average with 14 RBI. He and the other team members thanked Daryl Fauth of Blaine County Title for his support during the season.

For their season starting in late May at Reno, Nev., the “Codgers” compiled a 26-8 record and won three tournaments—at Missoula, Mt., at the Bend (Ore.) Senior Classic in July with a 6-0 record, and at the Idaho Senior Games in Boise Sept. 1, also with a 6-0 mark.

Sarchett batted 75-for-104 (.721) for the entire season.
