Perch’s Shop to the Top coming Aug. 25
    The Elephant’s Perch’s Shop to the Top running/walking climb of Baldy is set for Sunday, Aug. 25.
    An early, save-money registration deadline is Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at The Perch in downtown Ketchum for $25 per person. The cost rises to $35 until the final deadline of Friday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. There are no race day entries. If you register online at active.com, cost is $25 until Aug. 22 at midnight.
    Pick up your race packet by 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 at the Perch, or on the morning of the race at the shop.
    Courses for the 3,300 vertical foot climb are six miles (“Race Class”) starting at 9 a.m. from The Perch in Ketchum, or five miles covering 3,200 vertical feet (“Sport Class”) at 8 a.m. from River Run Lodge.
    Participants can take the chairlift back down, if weather permits. There will be awards for the fastest man and women in each class, and prize drawings for everyone. No dogs, please. Last year’s event was canceled because of smoky conditions at the site.

Aces at The Valley Club
    l Nils Carlson, 14, made a hole-in-one Friday, Aug. 2 on the sixth hole of The Valley Club’s South Course. Carlson used an 8-iron from the Black Tees (173 yards). Witnesses were Robert McCollum, Tor Carlson and Anders Carlson.
    l Averell H. Fisk aced the fourth hole of The Valley Club’s West Nine on Saturday, Aug. 3. He accomplished the feat using a 5-iron from the Black Tees (180 yards). Witnesses were Page Roos and Dan Murphy.

PGA Senior Section Golf Championship
    Valley Club Director of Golf Instruction Tommy Sanderson tied for 12th place with a 36-hole score of 74-75 for 5-over-par 149 during the Rocky Mountain Section Senior PGA Professional Championship July 31-Aug. 1 at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa. Winning the $1,200 top prize was Jeff Thomsen of Boise, 67-69 for 8-under-par 136. The top five finishers—Thomsen, Kevin Burton of Boise, John Graham of Idaho Falls, Jim Empey of Boise and Ron Rawls of Boise—qualified for the Senior PGA Professional National Championship Oct. 10-13 in Virginia.

Lyle Pearson Labor Day tennis championships set for Aug. 31-Sept. 2
    Tournament director John Perry has announced plans for the 2013 Lyle Pearson Labor Day Tennis Championships presented by Sun Valley Resort on the Sun Valley courts over the holiday weekend.
    The U.S.T.A. Intermountain competition is scheduled for three days, Saturday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 2. Players may enter three events, with two matches guaranteed. Entries close Monday, Aug. 26 at midnight Mountain Time. Local sponsors include Atkinsons’ and Sun Valley Resort.

All other divisions are not sanctioned and non-U.S.T.A. members can enter. There is a players’ party Sunday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. including a raffle for many prizes.
