Ultramarathon set for Sept. 21

In Pioneer Mountains

Organizer Ben Blessing (1-843-476-3714) is planning the point-to-point 60-kilometer (37.2 mile) Standhope Ultramarathon across the Pioneer Mountains near Ketchum on Sept. 21.
The scenic course goes from Phi Kappa Campground to Star Hope Campground. Total elevation gain is 11,800 feet.
The 60k race includes four grueling climbs. Runners will climb from Fall Creek Trailhead up through Surprise Valley and peak at the northeast saddle of Standhope Peak at 11,100 feet. The race passes the shores of Goat Lake, the highest lake in Idaho and descends to Broad Canyon Recreation Site.
Sponsored by Wild Idaho Endurance Runs, the event is part of the Idaho Trail Ultra Series and has the support of Challis National Forest, Scott Sports and The Elephant’s Perch, Blessing said. Volunteers are needed. Contact him at
