Fall school sports arrange meetings, practices

For WRHS, middle school


    Coaches at Blaine County public and private schools are starting athletic practices for the 2013 fall season—even though school doesn’t start until Tuesday, Sept. 3.
    Here is a look at some mandatory meetings and practice schedules coming up:
WRHS parent-player meetings
    Wood River High School athletic director John Rade has scheduled parent and player meetings for each fall sport in the coming week.
    l Girls’ and boys’ varsity and junior varsity soccer: Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. in the WRHS commons area. Tryouts and practices begin the morning of Monday, Aug. 12 for both programs. First games are Aug. 26.
    l Volleyball, varsity, JV and freshmen: Monday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the WRHS Distance Learning Center. Tryouts and practices start Monday, Aug. 19 at 9:15 a.m. All paperwork, including physicals for incoming freshmen, juniors and new students, must be submitted prior to tryouts. First matches are Wednesday, Sept. 4.
    l Football, grades 9-12: Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the WRHS commons area. Tryouts and practices begin Friday, Aug. 16 at 8 a.m. First varsity game is Friday, Sept. 6 at home against Salmon.
    l Cross country, girls and boys grades 9-12: Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. in the WRHS Distance Learning Center. First practice is Friday, Aug. 16. First meet is Friday, Aug. 30 at the CSI Invitational in Twin Falls.

High school volleyball team hosts Aug. 15-16 clinic
    The Wood River High School volleyball team is hosting a two-day pre-season clinic for girls entering grades 5-9 on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 15-16 from 9:30 a.m.-12 noon at the high school gym in Hailey.
    Registration is Thursday, Aug. 15 at 9 a.m. and the middle school clinic will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon each day. Cost is $25 for both days. For questions or sign-up, call Haley Cutler at 720-6431 or Brittney Bradley at 481-0039.

Middle School boys’ soccer begins Aug. 19
    Head coach Greg Gvozdas has set the pre-season tryouts and practice schedule for the 2013 Wood River Middle School boys’ soccer team.
    All training sessions are held at the middle school soccer field, Hailey. Players should bring soccer shoes, ball, shinguards and water. Contact Gvozdas at 578-5030 or ggvozdas@blaineschools.org
    Tryouts are Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 19-21 from 4:30-6 p.m.
    Pre-season practice schedule starts Thursday and Friday, Aug. 22-23 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each day, followed by a full week of training Monday through Friday, Aug. 26-30 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each day.

Girls’ soccer at Wood River Middle School
    Head coach Brandeis Coshow will conduct the first day of tryouts for the Wood River Middle School girls’ soccer team on Monday, Aug. 19 at the middle school soccer fields in Hailey. The girls should be ready to play from 8-10 a.m. that day. Call Coshow at 860-573-6213 for more details.

Volleyball at the middle school begins Aug. 19
    Wood River Middle School is having volleyball tryouts for all interested 7th and 8th grade girls Monday, Aug. 19 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the WRMS gym. Bring insurance information as well as water bottle and athletic clothing. All tryout participants need to have had a physical within the past year.
